The main study object is the mineral quartz and is trace element signature and variation. The main study areas are Wolfsberg in Austria and Leinster in Ireland, where pegmatites with economic potential occur. The aim its to establish quartz as pathfinder mineral to identify economic pegmatite-type resources in Europe.

More about the position

Trace element analysis of quartz will be performed predominantly with laser ablation inductively plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) and to some extend with secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS) and solution ICP-MS. Field work will be carried out in both study areas to set the geochemical results in a regional and genetic context.

The GREENPEG project consortium consists of 13 European companies and academic institutions, which will develop geochemical and geophysical tools for the exploration of European pegmatite-type deposits. The interdisciplinary consortium ensures exchange of ideas through project meetings, common fieldwork campaigns, and summer schools.
