The Institute of Clinical Medicine (Klinmed) is one of three institutes under the Faculty. Klinmed is responsible for the Faculty's educational and research activities at Oslo University Hospital and Akershus University Hospital. With about 800 employees spread over approximately 425 man-labour years, Klinmed is the university's largest institute. Our activities follow the clinical activity at the hospitals and are spread across a number of geographical areas.
One position as Postdoctoral Fellow is available for three years at Institute of Clinical Medicine, Division of Cancer Medicine, Institute for Cancer Research, Norwegian Radium Hospital, Oslo, Norway.
Research environment
Institute for Cancer Research has since its foundation in 1954 played a central role within the field of cancer research both in Norway as well as internationally. The Institute has six research departments, a core facility and approximately 300 employees. About 70% of the employees and projects are externally funded.
Department of Cancer Genetics consists of four research groups and about 50 employees. The department is headed by Professor Therese Sørlie. The main research area of the department is on molecular biology and functional genomics of cancer. The department possesses large bio-banks of human tumor and blood samples and has long standing expertise in genome-wide technologies for the analysis of DNA, RNA and proteins.
Project information
Lung cancer is a common disease with a poor prognosis. The introduction of immunotherapy to lung cancer treatment has benefited the patient population, but unfortunately the majority does not respond. This has many explanations, and it is known that some tumours are immunologically cold. It is hypothesized that such tumours can become immunologically hot by inducing immunogenic cell death by for instance radiotherapy. We have initiated a clinical study, where we will treat patients with stereotactic radiotherapy in addition to immunotherapy. In this study, biological material will be collected and analysed.
The appointed candidate will be working in the group headed by Professor Åslaug Helland https://www.ous-research.no/home/helland/Group%20members/2731.
The main purpose of the fellowship is to qualify researchers for work in higher academic positions within their disciplines.
Qualification requirements and personal skills
- The candidates must have PhD in molecular biology or genetics and possess knowledge on cancer, including treatment, biomarkers, immunology and molecular biology.
- Experience with standard molecular biology laboratory techniques such as handling tissues, blood samples, cells and nucleic acids, in addition to analyses of genomics data, is necessary.
- Experience in performing serum analyses is necessary. The successful candidate should have a background as a health-professional or experience from patient handling and handling of human material.
- Proficiency in the English language is a prerequisite.
The candidate is expected to work together with other scientists in a team. We will welcome a highly motivated and dedicated candidate, with the ability to work independently, but with good communication skills and who performs well in a team.
