Applications are invited for a position as Research Fellow in technology-enhanced learning based at the Department of Education, Faculty of Educational Sciences, University of Oslo. The successful applicant to be Research Fellow will join the research group Learning and living in the Digital Age (LiDA). The fellowship period is 3 years, with possibility for a fourth year depending on teaching competencies and needs. For Research fellows that are employed for a period of 4 years,the position entails a compulsory workload of 25% that consists of teaching and supervision duties and research assistance.

The research fellow will be a part of the research team Digital and Social CO-creation (DISCO) and linked to two on-going projects on teaching and learning computer programming in school settings (Kodesnakk, Proskap-SL). As programming enters the Norwegian school curriculum from the school year 2020/21, there will be a demand for research in this area, with regards to pedagogy, methods and technology of teaching and learning of programming at all levels in the educational system. With two on-going projects, the research group is positioned in an important part of Norwegian school development and the new curriculum.

More about the position

The successful candidate is expected to have a master degree or equivalent in at least one of the two areas of Education and Informatics, and in addition have an interest and urge to learn about the other and how the subjects are intertwined in learning processes involving digital tools. Formal competence in the supplementary area (either Education or Informatics) will be an advantage for the position, but not a requirement.

The Department of Education and the LiDA research group are looking for a motivated candidate who can contribute in this cross-disciplinary field. A requirement for the application is a project description (8-10 pages) as a tentative plan for carrying out the PhD work (see below for guidelines).

A prerequisite for the employment is admission to the Faculty of Educational Science’s doctoral degree program, and applicants’ formal and other qualifications for admission will therefore also be assessed.

The research fellow must take part in the Faculty’s approved PhD program and is expected to complete the project

within the set fellowship period. The main purpose of the fellowship is research training leading to the successful completion of a PhD degree.

Qualification requirements

• Successful applicants must hold a Master’s degree (120 ECTS) or equivalent in Education and/or Informatics. The Master’s degree must include a thesis of at least 30 ECTS.
• Minimum grade B or equivalent for the Master’s degree (ECTS grading scale)
• Fluent oral and written communication skills in English and a Scandinavian language

• The quality of the project proposal
• The proposal’s alignment with one of the research group’s projects
• The applicants’ academic and personal qualifications for completing the research training program
• Personal suitability and motivation for the position
• Good ability to collaborate nationally and internationally
