The Institute of Clinical Medicine (Klinmed) is one of three institutes under the Faculty. Klinmed is responsible for the Faculty's educational and research activities at Oslo University Hospital and Akershus University Hospital. With about 800 employees spread over approximately 425 man-labour years, Klinmed is the university's largest institute. Our activities follow the clinical activity at the hospitals and are spread across a number of geographical areas.
Division of Medicine
One position is available as PhD - a 3 year engagement – affiliated at Institute of Clinical Medicine, University Of Oslo – funded by a prestigious grant from the Research Council of Norway.
We are seeking a skilled and ambitious co-worker to take on a challenging project funded by the Research Council of Norway (RCN), “Targeting the Gut-Heart axis”, which focuses on the role of gut microbial functions in heart failure and acute coronary syndromes. In the present project, we will hire a PhD candidate with strong clinical background from clinical cardiology, in order to recruit patients in a setting of acute myocardial infarction (MI), and follow the patients at three months, with fecal samples, blood samples, clinical evaluation and echocardiography. The aim is to define microbiota signatures during acute coronary syndromes, and investigate whether such signatures are associated with infarct size, inflammation and development of myocardial dysfunction post-MI. In addition to this study, the candidate will also perform laboratory analyses on microbiota-related soluble markers on existing cohorts of acute coronary syndromes.
Qualification requirements
- MD with clinical background from acute cardiology
- Applicants must be familiar with echocardiography, preferably also in research.
- Experience with clinical research is an advantage
