About the position

At the University of Agder a temporary 100 % position as Associate Professor in marine ecology is available for the period 21.03.20-31.12.20 at the Department of Natural Sciences. The position is located at Campus Kristiansand.

The Department of Natural Sciences presently has about 50 employees teaching and doing research in biology, bioengineering and natural sciences in the teacher education programs.

Responsibilities

The Associate Professor is expected to take part in teaching and supervision of bachelor and master students in marine ecology focusing on plankton.

Required qualifications

The criteria of employment are pursuant to the Regulations concerning appointment and promotion to teaching and research posts.

Criteria for educational competence for appointment as Professor/Associate Professor at UiA.

The applicant must hold a PhD with specialization in marine ecology or a related field. The applicant must have peer-reviewed published research. We seek a plankton ecologist with a thorough understanding of the interactions at lower trophic levels. The applicant should have expertise in the ecology and identification of zooplankton. Knowledge about the marine ecosystem along the Agder coastline is an advantage.

A high level of proficiency in spoken and written English is required.

Personal qualities

The position places great demands on the applicant´s capacity for independent goal-oriented work. Applicants will be assessed based on academic background and results, attainment, and previous research and project acquisition. Relevant practical experience, personal suitability and good teamwork skills will also be emphasized.

The position is remunerated according to the State salary scale, salary plan 17.510 code 1011 Associate Professor, NOK 552 800-691 400 gross salary per year. Higher salary may be offered for applicants with superior qualifications. A compulsory pension contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund is deducted from the pay according to current statutory provisions.
