The Institute of Clinical Medicine (Klinmed) is one of three institutes under the Faculty. Klinmed is responsible for the Faculty's educational and research activities at Oslo University Hospital and Akershus University Hospital. With about 800 employees spread over approximately 425 man-labour years, Klinmed is the university's largest institute. Our activities follow the clinical activity at the hospitals and are spread across a number of geographical areas.

Oslo University Hospital is a highly specialised hospital in charge of extensive regional and local hospital assignments and the provision of high quality services for the citizens of Oslo. The hospital also has a nationwide responsibility for a number of national and multi-regional assignments and has several national centres of competence. The hospital is Scandinavia's largest and we each year carry out more than 1.2 million patient treatments. Oslo University Hospital is responsible for approximately 50 percent of all medical and healthcare research conducted at Norwegian hospitals and is a significant role player within the education of a large variety of health care personnel. We are an emergency hospital for East and Southern Norway and have national emergency assignments. The hospital has a total budget of NOK 17 billion. The part-time professorship (20%) is combined with a full-time (100%) position at the Department of Medical Genetics, Oslo University Hospital. A permanent position as Head of Section (Section for Research and Development) is available at Division of Laboratory Medicine/Department of Medical Genetics, Oslo University Hospital. The position is affiliated with a part time position as Adjunct Professor SKO 9301 /Associate Professor SKO 1011 (20 % position) in Medical Genetics at the Institute of Clinical Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Oslo (UiO). It is required that the position holder attends to both positions.

Regarding the full-time clinical position at OUH:

Department of Medical Genetics at Oslo University Hospital (https://oslo-universitetssykehus.no/avdelinger/klinikk-for-laboratoriemedisin/avdeling-for-medisinsk-genetikk) consists of five sections: Section for Clinical Genetics, Section for Hereditary Cancer, Section for Laboratory Diagnostics, Section for Quality and Section for Research and Development (https://www.ous-research.no/home/meg/home/6629). The person appointed to the position will be appointed head of the Department’s complete research portfolio, both within Oslo University Hospital and the University of Oslo. Section of Research and Development (approximately 50 employees) consists of researchers, postdoctoral fellows and PhD candidates, as well as students and technical staff. Medical genetics is an exciting field experiencing a vivid scientific development, with implementation of new, groundbreaking technologies for exploring the patients’ genes as a basis for personalized medicine, also known as precision medicine. The Department plays a central part in the Norwegian health care system. Department of Medical Genetics chairs the Norwegian research infrastructure facility "Norwegian Consortium for Sequencing and Personalized Medicine" (www.norseq.org). The researchers in the Department collaborate with research environments within the hospital/university, and with other Norwegian and international institutions.

Short description of the position’s work tasks:

We are looking for a motivated leader to support and develop the Department’s research activities. An especially important task will be to facilitate integration of basic research with more clinical research activities. The holder of the position will also play an important part in strengthening the interdisciplinary collaboration with other departments in Division of Laboratory Medicine and in the hospital. The holder of the position is expected and encouraged to conduct own research, and 50 % of the position is reserved for research.

  • Lead the process of developing the Department’s research strategy
  • Contribute to an innovative and interdisciplinary research environment
  • Strengthen collaboration between research groups within the Department and the Division
  • Promote external financing of research activities
  • Actively work for outreach networking, in- and outside of Norway
  • Conduct own research, either in your own Research group or as part of one of the existing research groups in the department
  • Represent the department in the Division’s Research Committee
  • Keep track of all active research projects within the Department

Qualifications requirements - education and relevant personal qualities:

  • Scientific qualifications, preferably for a professorship, within a relevant biological scientific field
  • High professional and strategic research ambitions
  • The applicant should have profound knowledge ofmedical genetics, molecular biology/genomics and bioinformatics
  • Relevant experience from management andadministration
  • Personal aptitude is emphasized
