Section for Health-, Developmental-, and Personality Psychology

Job description

Two part-time positions as Associate Professor (20 %) in Developmental Psychology are open at the Section for Health-, Developmental-, and Personality Psychology (HUP), Department of Psychology. The section covers basic and applied research and teaching for the Bachelor, Master, Professional and PhD programs in health, developmental and personality psychology (including health promotion and prevention psychology). It has around 50 national and international permanent and non-permanent staff. The Section’s Developmental Psychology Unit includes half a dozen of permanent academic staff and several Ph.D. and Post-Doc fellows. Gender balance among the staff is one of the priorities of the Section.

The two part-time appointments are for a period of four years. The appointees will have to contribute to the section’s research and teaching, supervising and examination in developmental psychology (basic or applied) at the bachelor, master, doctoral and professional program.

The evaluation of the applicants will be based on their educational background, teaching experience diversity, research record, work experience with infants, children or adolescents, personal suitability and motivation. Achievements will be weighed against career stage, and adjusted for parental leaves.

Qualification requirements

  • Applicants must hold a degree equal to a Norwegian Doctoral degree in psychology or equivalent. The doctoral dissertation must have been submitted for evaluation prior to the closing date. The appointments are dependent on the Doctoral degree being granted. A PhD degree in developmental psychology would be an advantage.
  • Applicants must have undergraduate and/or graduate teaching experience (e.g. lecturing, supervision, examination, course organisation, university pedagogy training, teaching prize). Teaching experience in the field of developmental psychology, would be an advantage. Applicants are advised to familiarize themselves with the teaching covered by the Section.
  • Applicants must have an excellent research record (e.g. number, quality, originality and interest of publications, number of citations and h-index, external funding, awards). Research record in the field of developmental psychology or related fields would be an advantage.
  • For one of the positions (position A) applicants must have a fluent proficiency in oral and written Norwegian (or another Scandinavian language). Good skills in English would be an advantage.
  • For the other position (position B) applicants must have a fluent proficiency in oral and written English. Good skills in Norwegian (or another Scandinavian language) would be an advantage.
  • Applicants must indicate for which position A or B the application applies.
  • Applicants must be able to work both independently and to cooperate with others, and be highly motivated.

Formal regulations

The successful candidate who at the time of appointment cannot document basic teaching qualifications will be required to obtain such qualifications within a two-year period.

The successful candidate must demonstrate mastery of both English and one of the Scandinavian languages as working languages. If an appointee is not fluent in a Scandinavian language, the appointee will be expected within a two-year period to learn sufficient Norwegian to be able to participate actively in all functions the position may involve.
