About the position

The Faculty of Bioscience and Aquaculture at Nord University, announces a permanent position as Professor/Associate Professor in Veterinary Medicine.

The position is affiliated with the research group Animal Science, Production and Welfare, and is primarily associated to the Joint Bachelor's degree in Animal Science, but teaching in other study programs might also be relevant. The part of the teaching may also take place in Steinkjer.

The Joint Bachelor program in Animal Science corresponds to the first three years of veterinary studies and the students start their training at Nord University and finish it at the University of Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy (UVMP) will actively contribute to the strengthening and development of the program and ensure research-based teaching. Applicants must have experience in any relevant veterinary field but preferably in animal biology, physiology and anatomy.For the appointment as a Professor or an Associate Professor, contribution in the development of research projects and applications for external financing is expected by the candidate.In addition to teaching and research, the position also includes administrative work at the Faculty, related to teaching, research and dissemination. Job responsibilities can be adapted to the faculty's needs and the competence.If no applicants are qualified for the position of Associate Professor or Professor, then the position can be offered as University Lecturer, provided that the successful applicant has the necessary experience required for this position. eligible to apply for the position of Associate Professor, contingent upon obtaining the requisite doctorate.

This appointee is also expected to contribute to the overall development of the faculty. The work tasks may change depending on the faculty's research and teaching needs, and the competence of the employee.

The position may involve tasks at Nord University’s other campuses.

Duties and responsibilities

  • The position entails teaching and supervision at all levels
  • Supervision of Masters and PhD students
  • Initiating and developing interdisciplinary research projects in collaboration with colleagues at the Faculty
  • Facilitating of research projects with national and international partners
  • Participation in the development of externally funded research projects will be expected, as well as furthering research collaborations with national and international partners.
  • It is assumed that the appointee will contribute to the development of the academic community in the faculty, together with other colleagues.

Qualification requirements

The successful applicant must either possess or have a professional basis for obtaining a Norwegian authorization to work as a Veterinarian in Norway. Research and teaching experience for the employment as a Professor or an Associate one or more fields of Animal Biology, Physiology and Anatomy. The teaching language of the program is English so excellent written and oral communication skills in English are required, while knowledge of any Scandinavian language is not fluent in a Scandinavian language, she/he will be expected to learn sufficient Norwegian within two years of their appointment. Participation in the development and execution of research projects is required to demonstrate the research results, mainly through publication of scientific papers. Candidates who have not documented pedagogical courses must complete such course within the first two years of employment. Nord University offers pedagogical courses that cover this requirement.

Professor

  • In addition to the skills and qualifications required for the position as Associate Professor, the applicant must document extensive experience in teaching and supervision. The applicants must also demonstrate a record of continuous high quality research.
  • Adequate professional educational competence is a requirement for this position. In addition to the basic skills in respect of the planning, implementation, evaluation and development of teaching and supervision which apply the position of an associate professor, applicants must provide documentary proof of the following: quality development in teaching and supervision, broad supervisory experience and joint professional development of educational quality. Associate Professor

  • A degree in veterinary Medicine (cand. Vet) is required. A Norwegian doctorate in a relevant field of study or equivalent foreign doctorate that is approved by Norwegian Doctorate is required, or competence at the equivalent level documented by scientific production of the same scope and quality.
  • The candidate must document publications in international, peer-reviewed journals. It will be emphasized whether applicants have participated in national or international projects, preferably funded via competitive financing. The faculty collaborates closely with various external partners, which means that the one who is hired will cooperate with different funding sources, governmental and private actors and researchers from other disciplines.
  • Applicants must provide documentary proof to show that they possess basic skills in planning, implementation, evaluation and development of teaching and supervision. A degree in veterinary Medicine (cand. Vet) is required.

Applicants will be evaluated by an expert committee. Short-listed applicants will be called for an interview and trial lecture. These will be decisive for the appointment.
