The University of Bergen is a renowned educational and research institution, organised into seven faculties and approximately 54 institutes and academic centres. Campus is located in the centre of Bergen with university areas at Nygårdshøyden, Haukeland, Marineholmen, Møllendalsveien and Årstad.

Research scientist

There is a vacancy for a fulltime 2-year researcher position at the Department of Psychosocial Science from 1 July 2020. The position is affiliated with the project AlerT: Awareness Learning Tools for Data Sharing Everywhere, funded by the Research Council of Norway.

About the project/work tasks:

The project is concerned with e-privacy, that is, with privacy issues in relation to the sharing of personal information in digital environments. It consists of an interdisciplinary team of researchers from psychology, information and computer science, and education. The aim of the project is to develop tools for raising awareness about e-privacy among the public. In a serious games environment, users will practice and make choices in scenarios, and receive instructive feedback based on their choices. The task of the researcher is to conduct psychological experiments in the context of the serious games environment. The aim of the experiments is to investigate risk perception and decision making processes concerning the sharing of personal information. The researcher will be involved in and have a central role in all parts of the research process.

This includes:

• developing research questions within the research project
• conducting experimental studies
• conducting data analyses
• contributing as first and co-author to scientific publications

Qualifications and personal qualities:

• Applicants must at the time of applying have successfully defended their Ph.D. in psychology or a related discipline.
• Expertise in cognitive psychology, preferably in the areas of judgment, risk perception, and decision making.
• Competence in quantitative data analysis and experimental research designs.
• Experience in research on serious games or virtual environments is an advantage.
• Experience with publishing in international (English) peer-reviewed scientific journals.
• The applicant must be able to work independently and in a structured manner and have the ability to cooperate with others.
• The position requires proficiency in both written and oral English
