The position

At the Faculty of Health Sciences, School of Sport Sciences a position has become available for the role of PhD Candidate for applicants wishing to take a Philosophiae Doctor (PhD) degree. The position is affiliated with the research group Skills and Performance Development in Sport and Physical Activity. The position is based in Tromsø, but with visits to clubs around Norway and in Denmark.

The position is available for commencement from 01.01.2020 and for a period of four years.

The objective of the position is to complete research training to the level of a doctoral degree. Admission to a PhD programme is a prerequisite for employment, and the programme period starts on commencement of the position. The PhD candidate shallparticipate in the faculty’s organized research training, and the PhD project shall be completed during the period of employment. The nominal lengt of the PhD program is three years. The fourth year is distrubuted as 25 % each year, and will consist of teaching and other duties for the Faculty of Health Sciences.

The project

This PdD position is one of several PhD- and postdoc positions in a multidisciplinary project investigating performance in elite female football.The aim of the PhD project is to determine the physiological match and training performance variables, by player positions, that represents the physiological load on female elite football athletes using state of the art tracking technology.

Based on tracking results we will conduct small-scale cluster Randomized Controlled Trials (RCT`s) on training methods to maximize selected physical capacities crucial for enhancing performance and reducing fatigue development.

The effect of wellness parameters and menstrual cycle on training and match performance will be part of the study.

Qualifications

A requirement of the position is the completion of a Master's degree in Sports Science, Exercise Science or Sport Medicine, or other relevant Master’s degree.

Applicants must be fluent in English, in both spoken and written form.

Knowledge regarding the use of technology in football as well as practice as coach/analyst in club or federation will be appreciated.We are looking for someone that is structured, enthusistic, goal-oriented, analytical, responsible, resourceful, flexible, service-minded, and not preoccupied with prestige. The applicant should have good skills in collaboration, and should have a pedagogical approach.The position requires admission to the PhD programme.

- Completed university degree in the field of English language or literature

- One year’s completed university studies in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the UK or USA, for which English was the language of instruction.

A shorter period of appointment may be decided when the PhD Candidate has already completed parts of their research training programme or when the appointment is based on a previous qualifying position PhD Candidate, research assistant, or the like in such a way that the total time used for research training amounts to three years.

As many as possible should have the opportunity to undertake organized research training. If you already hold a PhD or have equivalent competence, we will not appoint you to this position.

Remuneration for the position of PhD Candidate is in accordance with the State salary scale code 1017 or code 1378 depending on qualifications. A compulsory contribution of 2 % to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund will be deducted.
