Norwegian Institute for Air Researc

NILU – Norwegian Institute for Air Research (170 employees) aims to increase the understanding of processes and effects of climate change, of the composition of the atmosphere, of air quality and of hazardous substances. The institute holds a strong position both on the national and international level within its core fields of research.

We are looking for a flexible and highly motivated engineer/senior engineer that loves lab work with and in vitro human toxicology, have good communication skills and a positive attitude to both work and colleagues. Personality that fits to the rest of the group will be of high importance when selecting the successful candidate. The chosen candidate will work in a team, but also independent.

The Health Effects Laboratory is part of department for Environmental Chemistry at NILU, and do mainly project based research within human hazard characterization and risk assessment of pollutants. We do in vitro toxicity testing, and the focus of the lab is on nanotoxicology and nanosafety. Main areas of research are genotoxicity and mutagenicity. The laboratory is certified for Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), and quality assurance and good procedures are important in all our work.

The work will consist of:

  • Cell culture work
  • Experimental toxicology
  • Work with nanomaterials for experimental testing
  • Laboratory maintenance work
  • Reporting of results and contribution to reports

Required education and background:

  • Master in toxicology or other relevant discipline (e.g. cell biology, molecular biology)
  • Cell culturing skills
  • Knowledge in genotoxicity preferred
  • Language skills: Good knowledge of English language (written and oral) is required. It is not a requirement that candidates speak and write Norwegian, but it is absolutely necessary that the chosen person focuses on learning Norwegian (spoken and written) when starting the position.

The position is temporary for 1-year and is located at our main office at Kjeller, just outside Oslo.
