About the position

A 100 % position is available at the University of Agder, Faculty of Health and Sport Sciences, Department of Health and Nursing Science, as a PhD Research Fellow in “Clinical decision making at the point of care”, for a period of three years. The position is located at Campus Grimstad. The starting date is negotiable with the Faculty.

This position is related to the Centre for eHealth, whose vision is user-centred research for evidence-based, high-quality research in health and technology. The Department of Health and Nursing Science provides teaching and research at the intersection of health and technology.

Responsibilities

Increased digitization of healthcare services implies a large scope of patient-generated health data. Patient-generated health data are data collected from patients to help address a health concern (e.g. in the use of sensors and in remote chronic disease care management). However, the current state-of-art of these patient-generated health data for point of care shows that there are gaps related to the handling of the data.

The Faculty of Health and Sport Sciences offers a PhD position that will address some of these challenges. The PhD candidate will be part of an interdisciplinary team of PhD candidates connected to the Centre of e-health working with health-generated data from different perspectives. This PhD candidate will be affiliated to the faculty’s PhD- program in health science and will study patient-generated data from a clinical perspective.

Use of health data in clinical settings raises several questions, e.g.: How can patient-generated data best support health care decision-making processes? How can the use of patient-generated data contribute to patients' participation in decisions related to the treatment process? What are the challenges and possible solutions to safeguard patients' privacy and consent competence when health personnel use, share and re-use patient-generated data?

Applicants for this PhD project is to prepare a project outline to accompany the application, focusing on one or more clinical issues that can be linked to patient-generated data (not limited to the examples presented above). According to the e-health centre’s vision of co-creation, a user-centred approach in the research design will be emphasized. The quality of the project proposal will receive a high level of consideration during the application assessment process.

Required qualifications

The applicants must qualify for admission to the faculty PhD Programme in the Faculty of Health and Sport Sciences, with a specialisation within eHealth, and must hold a master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant area of study, with an average grade of “B” or better.

Fluency in written and oral English is a prerequisite.

Desired qualifications

Knowledge of Norwegian, or a Scandinavian language, is desirable.

During the assessment process, emphasis will be placed on the applicant’s examination results as well as any previous research and development work.

The position is remunerated according to the State Salary Scale, salary plan 17.515, code 1017 PhD Research Fellow, NOK 479 600 gross salary per year. A compulsory pension contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund is deducted from the pay according to current statutory provisions.
